Third from last was the title of my first race blog. I was truly third from last. Since then, I have moved upward in the finishing ranks of races but remain a "back of packer" with some midpack exceptions. But, as one of my students told me, "at least you are a packer." Racing mountain and ultra events is a journey into the wilderness. The wilderness is a place as well as a part of our psyche.
